SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail security system, which is employed to validate if an e-mail message is sent by a certified server. Using SPF protection for a domain will stop the faking of email addresses generated with the domain. In simple words: enabling this attribute for a domain name creates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP of the servers which are permitted to send emails from mailboxes using the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all of the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Every time a new e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it uses tests whether it comes from an approved server. When it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, yet when it does not originate from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it's rejected. In this way nobody can mask an e-mail address to make it look as if you are sending spam messages. This technique is also known as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Web Hosting

SPF protection can be activated for every domain hosted in a web hosting account on our cloud platform with no more than a few clicks. The feature can be found in the Emails section of our outstanding Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to activate it is to pick one of your domains from the drop-down menu and to enter the hostnames along with the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the email servers that will be authorized to send emails from your emails. As an additional option you can also restrict the emails to be sent from your domain name only when it includes our MX records, i.e. when our servers handle the emails for it, not a third-party supplier. This option gives you the best degree of security, but it is not applicable when only your web site is on our servers while the email addresses for the domain name are taken care of elsewhere. Regardless, the SPF protection service will keep your emails risk-free from being used for spam and scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, that comes as standard with all our semi-dedicated service, will provide you with an incredibly user-friendly interface to enable the SPF protection service for each domain that you host within your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia are enough for that and you will only have to enter the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be permitted to send messages from your e-mail addresses. In case the emails are handled by us and not by another provider, you'll be able to raise the protection level even further and activate an option for your outgoing email messages to be sent only if your domain names include our MX records. This option will provide you with increased control and it will eliminate any possibility of someone counterfeiting your e-mails with the intention of spamming and scamming people. It is not applicable if only your site is on our state-of-the-art cloud website hosting platform, while your email addresses are handled by some other service provider. If you aren't sure what options to choose, our tech support crew will help you 24/7.
